Default Connect Error

Finally getting round to trying Xshop.

Have set my connection details form the 1and1.co.uk control panel

On connection I get :
[SasData.GetMySQLDataSet] [5] : Can't connect to MySQL server on '<servernamedeleted>.oneandone.co.uk' (10061)
54,46,223,182,250,59,16,209,180,207,55,60,153,161, 27,33,156,14,109,192,145,108,29,105,71,220,98,169, 34,247,4,95,205,6,194,6,196,190,18,132,188,168,229 ,253,28,81,236,242,184,235,10,203,167,24,246,178,2 42,150,124,126,185,138,149,227,165,237,123,240,121 ,213,132,32,179,98,145,247,57,107,120,209,140,81,7 1,181,243,99,249,41,2,255,145,97,42,125,137,33,229 ,19,159,173,107,133,0,245,107,197,173,111,240,174, 216,107,28,213,39,121,178,215,188,37,172,19,243,24 4,136,89,218,214,109,89,163,233,120,96,150,22

I have checked and rechecked the username, servername (which has been changed above), database name and password. Am I just forbidden from using remote connections or is the fact that this is a version 4 database a problem?

Or have I messed up elsewhere?

Check with 1&1 if you are allowed to connect to mysql remotely. If you are, you usually need to specifically set that up, as it is not enabled by default at most hosts.

That error means it is not even able to connect, so I suspect remote connections are not allowed by default

Doh!

1and1 allow remote access to root servers but not shared hosting (which I am). Looks like I will have to pass for now.

Thansk Michael.

Seriously, we are working on several options for this, so you will not need remote mysql access... If you have SSH on your account, you should be able to tunnel through ssh to mysql very easily.
